OCAMM in brief
The rationale for establishing a center for materials modeling in Otaniemi is to strengthen the atomic-scale modeling effort and promote excellence in this area. The activities of the Otaniemi Center for Atomic-scale Materials Modeling (OCAMM) cover research, education and innovation. OCAMM fosters collaboration within the center, with the community of experimental research groups specializing in materials research in Otaniemi, and with industry. The foundational partners are principal investigators (PIs) within Aalto University, CSC IT Center for Science, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Restricting itself to organizations within the Otaniemi area is a strategic decision within the consortium, aimed at maintaining a tight focus and manageable structure going into the future. One defining characteristic of OCAMM is its strong vocation to support experimental and industrial materials research with simulation, as opposed to existing efforts focusing on the development of exclusively computational approaches.
